Come on a pilgrimage to Echt, Netherlands and follow in the footsteps of Saint Edith Stein.
Discover the life, ideas and spirituality of St Edith Stein, one of Europe’s patron saints, with a visit to her National Shrine in Echt. Whether you’re visiting with your parish, study group, school or another organisation, we look forward to welcoming you. Our friendly, experienced guides will show you the places that tell the story of Edith Stein’s time in Echt.
There’s plenty to discover. Visit the convent on Bovenstestraat, where Edith Stein lived before her deportation, or step into the adoration chapel at St Landricus pilgrimage church to see several important relics. You can follow the walking route at your own pace or explore with a knowledgeable guide.
The Discalced Carmelite sisters live in an enclosed convent. Only the chapel and the devotional room may be open to visitors during opening hours. It isn’t possible to meet the sisters.
Explore at your own pace
You’ll find a map on this website showing the main stops on the Edith Stein walking route. A free leaflet tells you more about each place along the way.
The convent chapel is normally open every day from 9 am to 4 pm at the latest. The devotional room may not be open when you visit independently.
Pick up a leaflet at the reception desk of the Museum van de Vrouw on the Plats in Echt, at the library or at St Landricus pilgrimage church. You can also use the digital version.
